This week, the Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) increased by 3.9%, or 112 points. The index, which ended last week at 2,870 points, closed this week at 2,982 points. This is the highest level since Shrawan 30 of last year, when NEPSE had reached 3,000 points. The market has been rising steadily since mid-Asar (around Asar 15), and it went up all five trading days this week.
On Sunday, the market rose by only 0.32 points. But the growth was stronger on other days: Monday saw a 21.76-point rise, Tuesday added 80.97 points, Wednesday gained 5.17 points, and Thursday increased by 3.76 points.
Trading volume was also notable. On Sunday, the turnover reached Rs. 21.46 Arba, the highest in 11 months. Monday saw Rs. 16.32 Arba, Tuesday Rs. 20.08 Arba, Wednesday Rs. 19.57 Arba, and Thursday Rs. 18.49 Arba in turnover.
Three New Records This Week
This week, the stock market set three new records. The first was in market capitalization, which reached Rs. 49.77 Kharba on Thursday. As the index grows, the market capitalization is expected to hit new highs.
The second record was in the “Others” sector. This index reached an all-time high of 2,727 points on Wednesday. It was also the best-performing sector of the week.
The third record came from the Hydropower sector. On Thursday, the hydropower index hit 3,941 points. More companies are entering this sector, and investors are optimistic, which has helped this sector grow significantly.
Sector Performance
While the banking sector had risen 6.12% last week, this week it only gained 0.25%, which is less than the NEPSE average. Many investors took profits from banking stocks and moved their money to other sectors.
The “Others” sector grew the most this week, with a 10.19% rise. It includes nine companies, but the main growth came from two big ones: Nepal Reinsurance and Himalayan Reinsurance. Nepal Re’s price rose by 16.92% to Rs. 1,598, and Himalayan Re went up by 8.88% to Rs. 1,067. Another company, Trade Tower, which is priced at Rs. 100 per share, reached Rs. 648, also pushing the index higher.

Most Traded Companies
Nepal Reinsurance was the most traded company in terms of value, replacing Butwal Power from last week. Nepal Re saw a total turnover of Rs. 3.49 Arba. Himalayan Re followed with Rs. 3.17 Arba in trades. Other top companies included Butwal Power, Ngadi Group, Shivam Cement, Radhi Hydropower, First Microfinance, Sanima Mai Hydropower, Lumbini Development Bank, and Sahas Urja.
In terms of the number of transactions, the top companies were Himalayan Re, NIFRA, Shivam Cement, Shivashree Hydropower, Ngadi Group, Nepal Reinsurance, Sahas Urja, Upper Tamakoshi, Singati Hydropower, and Kumari Bank.

IPOs and Right Shares
Currently, there is no IPO or FPO open for the general public. However, for Nepali workers abroad, the IPOs of Bandipur Cable Car and Swastik Laghubitta were open until Friday. Bungad Hydropower’s IPO for migrant workers remains open until Sunday.
For project-affected locals, Bandipur Cable Car’s IPO is still open until Shrawan 20. Eligible locals include residents of all wards of Bandipur and Aabukhaireni Rural Municipality, and Ward 1 of Bhanu Municipality in Tanahun, and Ward 7 of Palungtar Municipality in Gorkha.
Bungad Hydropower’s IPO for affected locals in Bajhang is also ongoing. They can apply until as early as Shrawan 11 and as late as Shrawan 26.
Right shares of four companies are currently open: Barun Hydropower (100%), People’s Power (50%), Nepal Insurance (34.78%), and Asian Life Insurance (42%). The application deadlines are Shrawan 19, 11, 26, and 13, respectively.
Global Market Update
Major global markets also performed well this week. The US Dow Jones index rose 0.27% this week and 3.98% over the past month. The S&P 500 increased by 4.45% in a month. China’s Shanghai Composite went up 1.55% this week and 4.13% in a month. Japan’s Nikkei 225 grew by 3.46% this week and 6.46% in a month. London’s FTSE 100 rose 1.85% this week and 4.81% this month.
However, India’s BSE Sensex dropped by 0.50% this week and has fallen 1.34% over the past month.
