The Ministry of Finance has officially commenced the recruitment process for the vacant post of Chairperson of the Nepal Insurance Authority (NIA).
A newly formed public recommendation committee issued an urgent call for applications, inviting highly qualified and morally upright Nepali citizens to step forward. This leadership role is pivotal, as the chosen chairperson will head the apex regulatory body governing Nepal’s multi-billion-rupee life and non-life insurance sectors.

Mandatory Academic & Experience Requirements
In compliance with Section 8, Sub-section (1)(a) of the Insurance Act, 2022 (2079 BS), applicants must meet high structural benchmarks:
1. Educational Qualifications
Candidates must hold at least a Master’s Degree (or an equivalent qualification recognized by the government) in any of the following fields:
Insurance, Monetary Studies, or Banking
Commerce, Economics, or Management
Public Administration, Statistics, or Mathematics
Law or Engineering
2. High-Level Managerial Experience
Applicants are required to document a minimum of five (5) years of senior managerial experience specifically within the fields listed above.
3. Age Restrictions
In alignment with the structural appointment guidelines under the Ministry of Finance, candidates must be between 30 and 65 years of age on the final date of submission.
Strict Disqualification Criteria
To maintain institutional transparency, the recommendation committee has outlined definitive legal exclusions. Candidates are ineligible to apply if they possess any of the following criteria:
Criminal Record: Convictions involving corruption, money laundering, human trafficking, drug smuggling, or any offenses involving protected wildlife and archaeological artifacts.
Financial Blacklisting: Anyone currently listed on the credit blacklist. If an individual has been removed from the blacklist, a minimum of three years must have passed since their removal.
Foreign Residency Status: Individuals holding permanent residency permissions (such as a PR card or Green Card) in any foreign nation.
Conflict of Interest: Anyone currently actively holding or working under public procurement or business contract agreements with a public body.
Health: Individuals deemed mentally or physically unfit to execute rigorous administrative duties.
Behind the Selection Committee
The Government of Nepal has entrusted a specialized panel to ensure a fair shortlisting process. The recommendation committee will evaluate the pool of candidates based on their submitted professional track records, strategic vision plans, and interviews.
Ultimately, the committee will narrow down the field to shortlist the top candidates, whose names will be forwarded to the Cabinet for final executive appointment.
