On the occasion of International Workers’ Day, the Government of Nepal officially launched the ‘Shram Sansar’ portal. The platform was introduced by the Ministry of Labour, Employment, and Social Security and formally inaugurated by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
This new online portal will help both the government and private institutions find employees. Similarly, individuals seeking jobs can apply for work opportunities through this official platform. Prime Minister Oli stated that the portal will serve as a bridge between the government, the private sector, and citizens.
Objectives and Benefits
PM Oli emphasized the following key points:
- The platform will make job-seeking easier.
- It will help develop a culture of respect for labor.
- Employers will be able to access qualified workers.
- It will remove gaps between job seekers, employers, and employment services.
- The Citizen App will soon include this portal to improve accessibility.
He added that when skilled people are connected to jobs, a prosperous Nepal becomes achievable, and a happy citizen base can be built.
What is ‘Shram Sansar’?
‘Shram Sansar’ is an official information system developed by the Ministry. It is a digital labor market platform that provides access to employment, training, and entrepreneurship opportunities across Nepal.
It connects:
- Three levels of government (federal, provincial, local)
- Job seekers
- Employers
- Training providers
- Self-employed individuals
- Other labor market stakeholders
The portal will be operated via Employment Service Centers at local levels in coordination with federal and provincial governments.
Key Features of the Portal
Development and Expansion
The ‘Shram Sansar’ portal was first developed in 2023 in Koshi Province and tested in Biratnagar, Itahari, and Duhabi municipalities. Due to its early success, all 137 local levels of Koshi Province adopted the system.
To expand the platform nationwide, a technical committee was formed under the ministry. A formal agreement with Swisscontact was signed on March 10, 2025, during the 5th National Labour and Employment Conference, to scale it across all 753 local governments.
Vision Ahead
Labour Minister Sharad Singh Bhandari stated that the portal will end the belief that only those with influence can get jobs. He noted that now, any capable citizen, regardless of their location, can apply for work based on skills and qualifications.
Chief Secretary Ek Narayan Aryal added that this portal will play a major supportive role in promoting internal employment and stressed that all levels of government must take ownership of it.
To ensure sustainability, the ministry plans to:
- Partner with donor organizations
- Improve the internal capacity of the ministry
- Regularly update the portal
- Develop advanced digital features like predictive analytics and automation
