Bird Flu Confirmed in Koshi Village Municipality, Sunsari

Bird flu (avian influenza) has been confirmed in Saptakoshi Agriculture Farm, located in Ward No. 6 of Koshi Village Municipality, Sunsari. The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development officially announced the outbreak and has initiated containment measures.

Containment Zones Established

Following the confirmation, the Ministry instructed the Chief District Officer (CDO) of Sunsari to enforce a 4-kilometer control zone around the affected farm. The zones are defined as follows:

  • East: Up to 50 meters from the farm, covering an unpaved road.
  • West: A 200-meter radius of open field.
  • North: A 150-meter radius of open field.
  • South: A 300-meter radius of open field.

Ministry’s Directives

In a formal letter to the Sunsari CDO, the Ministry emphasized strict compliance with Regulations 5 and 6 of the Bird Flu Control Guidelines, 2078 BS (2021 AD). Key instructions include:

  • Conducting disease control activities within the 4-kilometer containment area.
  • Coordinating with local authorities to implement surveillance, testing, and preventive measures.
  • Extending similar protocols to other parts of Sunsari if new cases emerge.

The Ministry also urged the district administration to ensure cooperation, facilitation, and coordination among stakeholders to curb the spread of the virus.
