A new case of online fraud has emerged in Nepal where a fake mobile app named “NEPSE AI”, promoted on social media as a stock market analysis tool, has stolen millions of rupees from users’ bank accounts.

According to Nepal Police’s Central Investigation Bureau (CIB), a single victim lost Rs. 28.61 lakh after downloading the app. The scammers ran fake advertisements on Facebook, Instagram, and TikTok, luring people to install the app. After installation, large sums of money mysteriously vanished from victims’ accounts.

Police have received several complaints and are now working with banks to investigate. Authorities warn that such scams are rising and advise everyone to:

  • Download apps only from official app stores

  • Use two-factor authentication

  • Regularly change passwords

  • Avoid giving remote access through tools like AnyDesk or TeamViewer to strangers

This incident highlights a dangerous trend of criminals misusing digital technology to exploit unsuspecting citizens, putting financially vulnerable people at even greater risk.
