690 kg Marijuana Seized in Dharan: Smuggler Arrested, Fake Government License Plates Used

The police in Dharan caught 690 kg of marijuana and arrested one person, but another suspect escaped and is still missing. The smugglers were using fake government number plates on two vehicles to carry out the smuggling.

Incident Details

The marijuana was being transported from Dhankuta and was caught by the police in Dharan. During the operation, the police had to fire four rounds to take control of the situation. The vehicles involved had license plate numbers Ba 1 Jha 4605 and Ba 1 Jha 5127. According to the police, these license plates were registered to cars used by the Federal Government’s Ministry of Law and the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA), and the smugglers misused them for illegal activities.

Arrested and Escaped Individuals

  • Arrested: Shyam Kumar Bishwakarma, a 36-year-old resident of Sundar haraicha Municipality-11, Morang.
  • Escaped: The driver of one vehicle escaped after leaving the car at Surya Marg in Dharan-13.

Smuggling Tactics

Previously, smugglers were found transporting marijuana in ambulances and fuel tankers. This is the first time they have been caught using fake government license plates for smuggling.

Statement from the Police

Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Prakash Jabegu from the Area Police Office, Dharan, stated, “Fake government license plates were placed on private vehicles. Further investigations are underway.”

Police Action

The vehicles were seized on Tuesday evening in the Amarhat area of Dharan-13 during a routine inspection. Further investigation is going on and is expected to reveal more details about the smuggling operation. This incident shows how government license plates are being misused for smuggling and emphasizes the need for stricter measures to stop such activities.
