Weather Update: Cloudy Skies with Chances of Rain and Snow in Hilly Regions

The partial influence of a western low-pressure system has caused cloudy conditions across most parts of Nepal. According to the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s Weather Forecast Division, the weather is expected to remain partly to generally cloudy today, with chances of light rain in the hilly regions and snowfall in the mountainous areas tomorrow (Monday).

Current Weather Conditions:

  • Regions with Cloudy Weather:
    1. Fully cloudy: Karnali, Lumbini, Gandaki, Bagmati, and eastern parts of Madhesh Province.
    2. Partly cloudy: Koshi and Sudurpaschim Provinces.
  • Today’s Forecast:
    1. Partly to generally cloudy weather in hilly and mountainous areas.
    2. Light rain is expected in some regions.
    3. Light snowfall is likely in higher hilly and mountainous areas of Koshi and Gandaki Provinces tonight.

Monday’s Weather Outlook:

Meteorologist Binu Maharjan stated that Monday will likely see more clouds and rain compared to today.

  • Light Rain: Possible in hilly areas of Bagmati, Gandaki, Karnali, and Sudurpaschim Provinces.
  • Light Snowfall:
    1. In high hilly and mountainous areas of Sudurpaschim Province.
    2. One or two locations in the high hilly and mountainous areas of other provinces.
  • The western low-pressure system’s impact will peak on Monday and Tuesday, bringing cloudy skies and rain.

Temperature Update:

  • Kathmandu’s Minimum Temperature:
    • Today: 7.2°C, slightly higher than Saturday’s 5.9°C.
    • The increase is attributed to cloud cover during the night, explained Meteorologist Maharjan.
  • Recent Record: On Mangsir 29, Kathmandu recorded a minimum temperature of 2.5°C, the lowest this winter season so far.

Due to the temperature rise, Kathmandu experienced a less chilly morning today compared to previous days and has Chances of Rain and snow.
