1. What Information Do We Gather About You?

The information we collect about you varies depending on the context. Generally, it includes details that can personally identify you, either alone or when combined with other data.

Below is an overview of the information we collect and how we gather it.

(A) Information Collected through Result of IPO.

i. Information You Voluntarily Give Us

  • For Registration: When you sign up for a Result of IPO (e.g., a subscription), we collect your contact information and account credentials. Once you’re registered, we assign you a unique ID number. This ID number helps us recognize you when you’re signed in. For some Result of IPO, you can instead sign up by linking your Apple, Facebook, or Google account. See Information Collected From Other Sources below. If you register for an event or conference, we might ask for additional information (e.g., your company name, your job title, or your dietary restrictions).
  • For User-Generated Content: We provide you the option to publish items (like comments or recipe reviews) that other users can access. Any personal information you include with your posts is open to reading, collecting, and usage by anybody. For further information, see our Terms of Service’s User-Generated Content section or the Comments F.A.Q. We are not required to make any of your content public. We shall comply with legal requirements to the fullest extent possible if they ask us to erase, amend, or take down your personal information.
  • For Contests, Sweepstakes and Special Offers: When you sign up, you provide us with your name, email, and any other necessary information.
  • For Reader Surveys, Research, Panels, and Experience Programs: We collect information through questionnaires, surveys, and feedback programs, which may include demographic details such as your age, ethnicity, race, or gender. We also carry out similar research for advertisers. Your consent to use this information is requested when you participate in these programs and events.
  • During Contact With Our Call Centers: We collect information about you when you place an order over the phone. This information may include your name, contact information, and any further information you choose to share.
  • Personal Contacts Data: We never scan your device for your contacts or upload that data. With your consent, we comply with your requests to collect data about your friends, family, or acquaintances. This functionality is intended for Nepal residents only. By using it, you confirm that both you and your contacts are based in Nepal and that you have obtained everyone’s consent for us to use their contact information.

ii. Information Collected Automatically

When you use the Result of IPO, certain information is collected automatically. We employ technologies such as cookies, web beacons, tags and scripts, and software development kits (SDKs) to aid in this data collection. These technologies are utilized on our digital platforms, including our websites and apps, as well as in our email communications and newsletters.

The categories of personal information we collect automatically include:

  • Identifiers and Device Information: When you visit our Services, including our websites, applications, email communications, and newsletters, our servers automatically collect information about the device you’re using, including unique identifiers. If your browser does not accept our cookies or other similar technology, you may be unable to access certain sections of our websites. The data we record includes:
  1. Your IP address
  2. Cookie identifiers
  3. Your operating system and browser (e.g., type, version, and configuration)
  4. Your browser language
  5. Device identifiers (such as MAC address)
  6. Advertising identifiers

We combine this data with other information we collect about you.

  • Geolocation Information: some of our apps offer content based on your GPS location if you activate this feature. Your GPS location, being your precise geolocation, is considered sensitive personal information. You decide whether to enable GPS features during the initial app installation, and you can adjust this setting on your device anytime. If you opt for these features, your GPS location can be determined by satellite, cell phone tower, or Wi-Fi and utilized by the app. If you save a location-based search in your history, that data is transferred to our service provider’s servers. If you don’t activate GPS location-based services or if a specific app lacks such features, we don’t gather your precise GPS location. However, we do collect your IP address, which can estimate your approximate location. While ads on our sites and apps may be tailored based on this approximate location, they are never targeted based on your GPS location.

  • Other Usage Data: We collect certain internet and network activities from our Services, which include websites and apps. This information includes the URLs of the pages you visit on our sites and apps, the URL of the website from which you reached our sites, the time you spent on a page, access times, and other details about your use of and interactions with our Services.

iii. A Note about Sensitive Personal Information

We typically avoid collecting sensitive information about you. This includes:

  • Government-issued IDs (such as your driver’s license, passport, or social security number)
  • Your racial or ethnic origin
  • Your political opinions
  • Your religion or other beliefs
  • Your health, biometric or genetic characteristics
  • Any trade union membership
  • Any criminal background
  • The content of your private communications (other than messages you may send to us)

However, as previously stated, we may occasionally collect exact geolocation information (which may be deemed sensitive data) to provide the GPS-based location services you choose to activate. In addition, some regulations consider account access credentials, such as a username and password, to be sensitive personal information. However, we only collect such information for accounts that you create directly with us, not for any third-party accounts you may have.

Furthermore, there may be times when we request the aforementioned information (for example, a reader survey may query about your political affiliations or ethnicity), but you have the choice to decline to respond. Outside of these circumstances, we would prefer that you avoid disclosing this type of information to us.

(B) Information We Create or Generate.

We develop new insights from the data we collect, including using automated algorithms to produce information about your likely preferences or other characteristics (“inferences”).

(C) Information Collected from Other Sources.

  • Privately Owned Databases: Marketing, data analytics, and social media platforms give us access to various information sources, such as public data, survey data, and more. This data could include your mailing address, gender, age, household income, and other demographic information.
  • Social Media Platforms and Other Third-Party Services (Social media platforms include services like Facebook. Third-party services include services like Google and Nook.) Connect your social media or other third-party accounts to a Result of IPO. By linking these services, you authorize us to collect, store, and utilize any information they provide us (such as your email address). You can disconnect your nytimes.com registration from third-party accounts whenever you wish. Additionally, we obtain information from you when you engage with our pages, groups, accounts, or posts on social media platforms. This encompasses aggregate data on our followers (such as age, gender, and location), engagement data (including “likes,” comments, shares, reposts, and clicks), awareness data (such as the number of impressions and reach), and public profiles of individual users.

2. What Do We Do with the Information We Collect About You?

The Company may use Personal Data for the following purposes:

  • To provide and maintain our Service, including monitoring the usage of our Service.
  • To manage Your Account: to manage Your registration as a user of the Service. The Personal Data You provide can give You access to different functionalities of the Service that are available to You as a registered user.
  • For the performance of a contract: the development, compliance, and undertaking of the purchase contract for the products, items, or services You have purchased or of any other contract with Us through the Service.
  • To contact You: To contact You by email, telephone calls, SMS, or other equivalent forms of electronic communication, such as a mobile application’s push notifications regarding updates or informative communications related to the functionalities, products, or contracted services, including the security updates, when necessary or reasonable for their implementation.
  • To provide You with news, special offers, and general information about other goods, services, and events that we offer that are similar to those that you have already purchased or enquired about unless You have opted not to receive such information.
  • To manage Your requests: To attend and manage Your requests to Us.
  • For business transfers: We may use Your information to evaluate or conduct a merger, divestiture, restructuring, reorganization, dissolution, or other sale or transfer of some or all of Our assets, whether as a going concern or as part of bankruptcy, liquidation, or similar proceeding, in which Personal Data held by Us about our Service users is among the assets transferred.
  • For other purposes: We may use Your information for other purposes, such as data analysis, identifying usage trends, determining the effectiveness of our promotional campaigns, and evaluating and improving our Service, products, services, marketing, and your experience.

(A) We Provide the Result of IPO.

We use your information to help you use and navigate Result of IPO, such as:

  • Making a Result of IPO available to you
  • Arranging access to your account
  • Providing customer service
  • Responding to your inquiries, requests, suggestions, or complaints
  • Completing your payments and transactions
  • Sending service-related messages (e.g., a change in our terms and conditions)
  • Saving your reading list, recipes, or property searches
  • Displaying your Games (including Crossword, Wordle, and Spelling Bee) stats
  • Letting you take part in paid services, polls, promotions, surveys, panels, research, and comments.

(B) We Personalize Your Experience.

We track your interests and reading habits (e.g., the articles you read) to personalize your reading experience using technology like algorithmic recommendations and machine learning. This is how we highlight articles you might be interested in and de-emphasize articles you’ve already read.

(C) We Carry Out Administrative Tasks.

  • For auditing: We verify that our internal processes work as intended and comply with legal, regulatory, and contractual requirements.
  • For fraud and security monitoring: We detect and prevent cyberattacks or unauthorized robot activities.
  • For customer satisfaction: We assess users’ satisfaction with the Result of IPO and our customer care team.

(D) We Allow for Personalized Advertising on Result of IPO and Create Audiences for Third-Party Advertisers.

We collect data and collaborate with third parties to display personalized ads on behalf of advertisers. This data is sourced from various channels, including ad tracking technologies like cookies set by us or third parties, the information you provide (such as your email address), your interactions with Result of IPO (such as your browsing history), data from advertisers or advertising vendors (including demographic data), and any inferences drawn from this information. We only use or share this data in a manner that does not reveal your identity.

For instance, we use Google to deliver ads on Result of IPO. Google employs cookies or unique device identifiers, along with their data, to display ads based on your visits to nytimes.com and other websites. You can opt out of Google’s use of cookies by referring to Google’s privacy policy.

We also create user groups for targeted ad delivery on behalf of advertisers. This involves combining information gathered from surveys or registration with data collected automatically through tracking technologies while you browse our sites and apps. This amalgamated data is utilized to develop models, which are then used to categorize users based on common attributes. Each group is assigned a random ID, which is transmitted to our ad server for ad-targeting purposes on our sites and apps.

Another example is our affiliate link vendors, utilized in our guides and product recommendations. The Result of IPO includes links that redirect you to vendor URLs and other services not operated or controlled by us. These vendors utilize cookies and other technologies to gather information about your navigation from the Result of IPO to the merchant you’re visiting. If you purchase after following a link to a vendor’s URL, we may earn a commission.

Additional Notes:

  • For more about targeted advertising, and how to opt-out with your specific browser and device, go to the DAA Webchoices Browser Check and NAI Opt Out of Interest-Based Advertising. You can download the AppChoices app to opt out of mobile apps. You can also follow the instructions in the What Are Your Rights and Choices? section below.
  • We strive to limit the use of information obtained from you by our third-party advertising technology vendors. Many of these vendors require us to enter into contracts that allow them to improve their services and products or accelerate their development. Essentially, these providers combine any information they collect about you as a Result of IPO with information obtained from other clients. This allows them to target adverts to you on behalf of their many clients, not just us.
  • These third parties may utilize additional services to deliver ads; please refer to their privacy policies for more information. For further details on tracking technologies and your rights and choices concerning them, refer to the relevant Cookie Policy.

(E) We Advertise or Market the Result of IPO to You.

We market Result of IPO to you, sometimes utilizing marketing vendors for this purpose. We display ads through websites, locations, platforms, and services owned by third parties. These ads often target individuals who have visited or registered for Result of IPO but haven’t subscribed to or made a purchase. Additionally, they target individuals with similar characteristics or behaviors to our subscribers or customers.

To target our advertising to these users, we either upload an encrypted customer list to a third party or integrate tracking technology from a third party into the Result of IPO. The third party then matches individuals who appear in both our data and their data. Due to the nature of this matching process, the third party cannot access our encrypted customer list if they do not already possess it. To opt out of receiving these matched ads, please contact the relevant third parties. For instance, if we use “Custom Audiences” to display ads through Facebook, you should be able to opt-out by hovering over the box in the right corner of the Facebook ad. We are not accountable for any failure by third parties to comply with opt-out requests.

Periodically, we send targeted email newsletters or promotional emails. For details on opting out of these emails, please refer to the “What Are Your Rights and Choices?” section.

(F) We Aggregate (or De-identify) Personal Information into Larger Findings.

We may aggregate or de-identify information to the point where it cannot be used to identify you, as specified by applicable legislation. This helps us have a better knowledge of our users when we evaluate ad performance, create interest-based advertising segments, or collect survey results. We may use and share this aggregated or de-identified information for any purpose unless prohibited by applicable law.

3. To Whom Do We Disclose the Information We Gather?

(A) Within The Result of IPO Company:

Our affiliates may access your information for the purposes listed below:

(B) With Service Providers:

We may share Your personal information in the following situations:

  • With Service Providers: We may share Your personal information with Service Providers to monitor and analyze the use of our Service, to contact You.
  • For business transfers: We may share or transfer Your personal information in connection with, or during negotiations of, any merger, sale of Company assets, financing, or acquisition of all or a portion of Our business to another company.
  • With Affiliates: We may share Your information with Our affiliates, in which case we will require those affiliates to honor this Privacy Policy. Affiliates include Our parent company and any other subsidiaries, joint venture partners, or other companies that We control or that are under common control with Us.
  • With business partners: We may share Your information with Our business partners to offer You certain products, services, or promotions.
  • With other users: When you share personal information or otherwise interact in public areas with other users, such information may be viewed by all users and may be publicly distributed outside. If You interact with other users or register through a Third-Party Social Media Service, Your contacts on the Third-Party Social Media Service may see Your name, profile, pictures, and description of Your activity. Similarly, other users will be able to view descriptions of Your activity, communicate with You, and view Your profile.
  • With Your consent: We may disclose Your personal information for any other purpose with Your consent.

During the execution of these tasks, service providers frequently have access to your personal information. At times, we grant them permission to utilize aggregated or de-identified information for additional purposes, as permitted by applicable laws.

(C) With Other Third Parties:

There are instances when we disclose your information to third parties beyond our service providers. Historically, we have never disclosed your email address to these third parties without your consent, except in encrypted form for the matched ads process described previously.

It’s important to acknowledge that changes in the practices of certain vendors and legal regulations beyond our control have impacted our ability to disclose certain information. Firstly, if Nepal regulators consider the disclosure of information for matched ads as a “sale,” we will opt you out of such matched ads if you are a resident of Nepal and exercise your right not to have your personal information “sold.”

Secondly, at least one of our vendors uses pseudonymized email addresses provided by us to power products offered to us and their other customers. Consequently, your email address, shared with our vendor to provide services to us, may be utilized in a pseudonymized form by the vendor to offer products and services to other companies.

Although we strive to influence the conduct of our vendors that we recognize as service providers, some of these vendors engage in activities beyond our control, which may be perceived by regulators as the activities of “third parties,” rather than service providers.

4. What Are Your Rights and Choices?

We offer various means for you to manage the personal information we possess about you, including options regarding how we utilize that information. In certain jurisdictions, these controls and choices are legally enforceable as rights under applicable law.

  • Be informed of or receive an electronic copy of the personal information we have about you, for data portability.
  • Restrict or object to how we process personal information about you.

For instance, in the European Union and the United Kingdom, you have the right to object to or obtain a restriction on the processing of your personal information under certain circumstances. Additionally, if the processing is based on your consent, you have the right to withdraw that consent at any time for future processing.

If you wish to exercise any of the above choices, please contact us via this form or by calling us at +977 9843703819. In your request, please provide specific details. Specify the information you want changed, whether you want your information suppressed from our database, or if there are limitations you’d like us to impose on how we use your personal information.

Please ensure to use the email address linked to the personal information — we only process requests regarding information linked to the provided email address. To verify your identity, we will email the email address provided by you, which matches our records, and await your response. In some cases, we may request additional information. This is our process for verifying your identity before complying.

In certain jurisdictions, you can designate an authorized agent to make requests on your behalf. To do so, please provide the agent with written permission, signed by you, authorizing them to submit the request on your behalf. The agent must submit this written permission along with the request. We will address your request under applicable law, including any exceptions that may result in a request being denied in whole or in part.

Please note that we may need to retain certain information for recordkeeping purposes or to complete a transaction initiated by you before requesting a change or deletion (e.g., if you make a purchase or enter a promotion, you might not be able to change or delete the personal information provided until after the completion of the purchase or promotion).

In some cases, your request may not ensure complete removal of the content or information (e.g., if another user has reposted your content).

iii. Browser and Platform Controls

  • Cookie Controls: Most web browsers are configured to accept cookies as the default setting. However, if you prefer, you can adjust your browser settings to learn how to delete or reject cookies. It’s important to note that choosing to delete or reject cookies could impact certain features or services of our websites. If you delete cookies, settings, and preferences controlled by those cookies, including advertising preferences, may be deleted and may need to be recreated.
  • Global Privacy Control: Some browsers and browser extensions support the Global Privacy Control (GPC), which can send a signal to the websites you visit indicating your choice to opt-out from certain types of data processing, including data sales. In certain regions, when we detect such a signal, we will make reasonable efforts to respect your choices indicated by a GPC setting as required by applicable law.
  • Do Not Track: Certain browsers feature a “Do Not Track” (DNT) setting that can send a signal to the websites you visit indicating you do not wish to be tracked. However, there is no universal standard for interpreting the DNT signal. Therefore, our websites do not respond to browser DNT signals. Instead, you can utilize various tools to control data collection and use, including the cookie controls and advertising controls described above.
  • Mobile Advertising ID Controls: iOS and Android operating systems offer options to limit tracking and/or reset advertising IDs.
  • Email Web Beacons: Most email clients have settings that enable you to prevent the automatic downloading of images, including web beacons, which prevent the automatic connection to the web servers hosting those images.
  • Virginia Opt-Out of Targeted Advertising: Effective January 1, 2023, residents of Virginia have the choice to opt out of targeted advertising. To exercise your choice as a Virginia resident, please click on the “Do Not Sell/Share My Information” link at the bottom of the webpage where your information is being collected.

iv. Other Rights and Choices

You will not face discriminatory treatment from us for exercising your privacy rights.

This Policy has been designed to be accessible to individuals with disabilities. If you encounter difficulties accessing this Policy, please reach out to us at resultofipomarketing@gmail.com. Additionally, if you wish, you can file a complaint with a data protection authority. A list of E.U. data protection authorities is available. However, we encourage you to first get in touch with us with any questions or concerns.

In certain jurisdictions, you have the right to appeal to us if we decline to take action on your exercise of certain choices outlined above. To appeal such a refusal, please contact us at pritykunwar.iporesults@gmail.com with the subject line “Appeal of Refusal to Take Action on Privacy Request” and provide the relevant information in the email.

(B) California Privacy Rights

If you are a California resident, you have certain rights concerning your personal information.

i. Notice at Collection

At or before the point of collection, you have the right to receive notification of our practices, which includes information about the categories of personal information and sensitive personal information to be collected, the purposes for which such information is collected or used, whether such information is sold or shared, and the duration for which such information is retained. You can find these details in this Privacy Policy by clicking on the above links.

ii. Rights to Know, Correction, and Deletion

You have the right to request that we disclose to you the personal information we have collected about you. Additionally, you have the right to request further information about our collection, use, disclosure, or sale of such personal information. Please note that much of this information is provided in this Privacy Policy.

You also have the right to request that we correct any inaccurate personal information and that we delete personal information under certain circumstances, subject to several exceptions. Please refer to the “Access, Correct, Change/Update, Delete, or Restrict Processing of Your Personal Information” section above for details, including how to exercise these rights and how we verify your identity.

iii. “Do Not Sell or Share My Personal Information”

To the extent that The Result of IPO Company “sells” your personal information (as defined under the CCPA), you have the right to opt out of that “sale” on a going-forward basis at any time.

If you’re a resident of California, you have the right to opt-out from the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information with third parties who are not our service providers (as defined under the California Consumer Privacy Act and the California Privacy Rights Act, or “CCPA” for short in this Policy). To exercise this right, click the “Do Not Sell/Share My Information” link at the bottom of the webpage where your information is being collected, or navigate to “Account,” then “Settings,” and “About This App,” and click the “Do Not Sell/Share My Information” link there.

You can also submit a request to opt out by emailing us at pritykunwar.iporesults@gmail.com with the subject line “California Resident – Do Not Sell or Share.” Additionally, if your browser supports it, you can turn on the Global Privacy Control to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information.

If you have an account with a specific Result of IPO (specifically nytimes.com, cooking.nytimes.com, nytimes.com/crosswords, the Result of IPO app, the Result of IPO Cooking app, and the Result of IPO Games app) and are logged in, we will save your preference and honor your opt-out request across browsers and devices as long as you remain logged in.

If you are not logged in or do not have an account with any Result of IPO listed above, your opt-out of the “sale” or “sharing” of personal information will be specific to the browser or device from which you have clicked “Do Not Sell/Share My Personal Information” and until you clear your cookies (or local storage in apps) on this browser or device.

We do not knowingly “sell” or “share” (as defined by the CCPA) the personal information of minors under 16 years old.

iv. Right to Limit Use and Disclosure of Sensitive Personal Information

With effect from January 1, 2023, if you live in California, you have the right to restrict how we use sensitive personal data and save to fulfill your request for products or services or as otherwise allowed by law. Please use this form to contact us, or give us a call at 9813979795, to opt out of such additional uses.

v. Authorized Agents

To request that your rights under the CCPA be exercised on your behalf, you may appoint an authorized agent. To accomplish that, kindly give the agent written authorization to submit the request on your behalf, signed by you. That written consent must be submitted by the agent with the request. Before responding to the request, we will get in touch with you to confirm your identity and the approval of the authorized agent.

vi. Non-Discrimination Rights

With no fear of illegal discrimination, you are free to exercise any of the rights outlined in this section.

vii. Record of Requests

Every request that we receive from users of our website is documented. Our readers use our intake form to submit requests for data deletion and access. They indicate on the intake form if they live in Nepal. The user then receives an email from us requesting identification. The user’s request will be rejected after 45 days if they do not provide identity verification. If the user verifies within 45 days, we start processing their request.

For verified data deletion and data access requests, we have determined our median process time. The completion time of any requests is rounded to the nearest day. Sorting the processing times of all verified requests from shortest to longest yields the median process time. It’s the median, the number in the middle.
